Les Grands Coudrais Golf

We think ours is the only gite complex in the south West of France that can boast a golf facility in it’s grounds. Not the biggest in the world but we still have a full size green, three separate tee boxes and a driving net, all for your enjoyment and practice.

Why golf?

The whole idea stemmed from a light hearted conversation having viewed the house and gites back in 2024. There was a whole meadow and it just seemed like a waste of space, a comment was made about golf and before you know it ideas are racing through your head. Initial ideas on layout would have seen the green in one of the corners but having really looked at it plans altered and I now think we picked the right place. Framed beautifully by oak trees the green offers a real test from two of the tees but is still playable by non golfers from the other one.

It’s been a journey to get to where we are now and we are always learning new skills on green maintenance and upkeep. It is taking time to establish but it’s been a fun journey so far, a journey documented and soon to be shown Channel 4’s A New Life in the Sun in  the UK (January 2026). The TV company have followed us on every high and low in the last twelve months from concept to build. I am sure we could have done it differently, taken advice from professionals, but this has been our folly and we have learnt a lot along the way and I am sure you will agree it’s been worth it.

The Facilities

The green – a full size green framed by oak trees which will provide a challenge for all levels of golfer

Hole 1 – Le Jardin Potager ( the vegetable patch), named after the location of the tee box it’s a 80 yard shot to the green, in the summer when the meadow grows it’s a real test

Hole 2 – Les Ronces (the brambles), named after all of the brambles we have had to remove just to make the project viable. This is the easiest of the tee boxes and one for anyone to have a go. 65 – 70 yards with clear line of sight to the green

Hole 3 – Le Petit Chene (The little oak), named after the oak sapling that is on the tee box area. The longest tee shot into the green, 90-95 yards across the meadow, a tough angle to the green – a real test

Driving Net – Set up to allow you to practice with any club from your driver to your wedges.

The golf hut – I call it Mark’s clubhouse but really it’s just an old refurbished chicken shed to keep the clubs and balls for anyone to have a go
